Art, seeing and making, is very much like a spiritual journey for me; with many of the same physical, mental, emotional, advantages others claim through religion. I appreciate that VVG didn’t say it was “like” faith, but instead said it “is a faith.” And to articulate what seems to me to be a fundamental corollary of any true faith, he added “it poses the duty to disregard pubic opinion.” Or really the opinion of others in general.

A good bit of perspective, I would say.
